OSCAR BUZZ----ALL HAIL THE INDIE FLICKS

SUPPORT THE INDIE FLICKS BY WATCHING THE OSCARS

Predictions from Newsweek are that this year's Oscars will have the all time lowest viewership. That's because the 5 best picture nominees were unseen my the vast majority of Americans. Isn't that a shame. As more and more actors are opting to make Indie flicks, Americans continue to steer away from the controversial, thought provoking elements that characterize an Indie flick. I didn't see Capote yet, but certainly each of the other 4 nominees are about substance-not flash.

BEST MOTION PICTURE OF THE YEAR
BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN
CAPOTE
CRASH
GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK.
MUNICH

Who I like for the Best Picture

I guess the sentimental favorite is Brokeback but I think this deserves best adapted screenplay, director and leading actor--not best picture. By contrast, Crash really moved me, but I have a hard time remembering it. I literally had to go to IMDB and scroll through the photos to remember exactly what it was about. I do however remember really loving it and being moved by it. Wouldn't it be cool if Good Night or Munich won? George Clooney and Stephen Spielberg should receive recognition for making a political history that is disturbingly relevant today. Prediction-Brokeback

ACHIEVEMENT IN DIRECTING
BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN-ANG LEE
CAPOTE -BENNETT MILLER
CRASH -PAUL HAGGIS
GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK-GEORGE CLOONEY
MUNICH -STEPHEN SPIELBERG

Why I like Ang Lee

Simple, he should have won for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. He will also be the first Asian to win in this category. According to Newsweek, he'll be the first non-white guy to win.

Prediction-Ang Lee

ACHIEVEMENT IN VISUAL EFFECTS
THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE
KING KONG
WAR OF THE WORLDS

This was just a blatant snub at George Lucas

The notorious bad blood between the Star Wars luminary and Hollywood is indisputable. I loved Narnia and Kong was beautiful, but really now. There is no way that Narnia had better FX then Episode III. Tell me those rodents didn't look fake to you?

Prediction-King Kong
