Stranded in the Ice Storm
It’s Friday night, you’re trapped in Wilmington DE, Ice coming down sideways, your miles from the Philly airport, cancelled flight, the roads are covered with hard ice and reports are saying that it’s taking commuters hours to get just a few miles…………. What do you do???? Well if you’re me……….you take the limo meant to get you to the airport and instead go to Atlantic City and see a Pat Benatar concert. Well that’s exactly what I did.
My co-workers had tickets to see Pat Benatar and it looked like they would have to cancel their trip b/c of the ICE Storm and the horrendous driving conditions But what better way to get there than by limo. After much convincing and cajoling over the phone with the Delaware Shuttle service, I managed to find a brave chauffer willing to take his chances on the road. After about a 3 ½ hour drive we made it to the House of Blues, purchased 2 extra tickets one for me and one for Tim our driver, and man,,,,,what a show. Can you think of a better way to spend an ice storm.
Many hours later, we finally made it back to my friend Kelly’s house where she put me up for the night. Digging her car out of the ice where she had left it at the office was just loads of fun. Only to get it stuck again trying to pull her car into her driveway. Boy I wouldn’t have guessed this Florida girl would be shoveling hard ice at 3:00 in the morning in Pennsylvania. It was a sight to be hold that's for sure. I was in Kelley's purple sweats some funky hat and Kelley's winter snorkle jacket. Man I truly was in HELL.
Saturday morning it was time to get serious and figure out how I was going to get home to Florida. You’re trapped in Pennsylvania with nothing but yesterday’s suit, a cell phone, an IPOD and 2 credit cards, US airways rings busy for hours on end, and your travel agent leaves you in endless queue, the news is showing pictures of hundreds of travelers stranded at the Philadelphia airport and it’s spring break weekend and you need to get to Orlando. What do you do…. Well if you’re me, you drive home… and that’s exactly what I did.
So, with my one way Hertz car, some new target clothes and no worse for ware, I made it home after 16 hours of driving. Hundreds and hundreds of travelers were miserably stranded this weekend in Airports across the North East, but instead, I have great memories of a Pat Benatar concert in Atlantic City during an Ice Storm---and I have the ticket to prove it.
