Disturbed with Five Finger Death Punch

Disturbed

What more can I say about David Draiman and Disturbed that hasn't already been said before. They certainly top my list of perennially great bands. This concert was much the same as the 3 others that we have seen (can you say addicted); the band brought it, David was insane and the fans went wild.   (singing every single word of every single number)

What struck me most about this concert was David's ability to command the audience.  He prowls up there on stage (Tiger-like) belting out incredibly difficult lyrics to an insanely fast tempo, and he remains completely in control.  He is truly one of the great hard rock vocalists of this decade.

David's voice was beautiful, as always.  I know it's kind of strange to say that about his band. But I truly believe he has a pretty voice. It's most evident on his ballads and slower tracks like "Overburdened"  (noticeably missing from this concert).    I read that he had to have some recent nose surgery, but so far, no evidence of any degradation in voice quality.   "Down with the Sickness" and "Stupefy" had their unique fast rap-singing and "Prayer" for example was sung as perfectly as ever.

Mark and I were both a bit dismayed that Disturbed only played for about 60 minutes.  They were very careful to specify that they were as yet unable to play tracks from their upcoming album (due out 6/3).  They did however, play their released single "Into the Fire" during the encore--and it was spectacular.

This hot LA band deserves all of the attention it's been getting.   I've read that "The Bleeding" opened up in the top 40 and continues to climb.   They played it as their very last song and the fans were licking it up.   What can I say about this band if you have never heard them.  They are the type of band that can clean out your brains from your skull.   They are metal hard, raw, angry and were positively vulgar up their on stage.  It was terrific and completely unforgettable.

Described as melodic metal (aka groove-thrash), Five Finger Death Punch truly has something special in my opinion.  Their live show was visually aggressive and interesting but their sound quality not as refined and mixed as their studio album.  However, they sounded nearly as good and deliriously raw.   The group is fronted by vocalist Ivan Moody, a former member of W.A.S.P and was the brainchild of guitarist/songwriter Zoltan Bathory who is clearly a virtuoso.   Both musicians were something to watch.  Ivan was unusually expressive with growling out the irreverent, anti-establishment lyrics and Zoltan was just a joy to watch as he flew across the fretboard of his B.C Rich Assassin (very very slick guitar-definitely for the metal crowd and a future acquisition)

I can say that Disturbed was certainly the main event, but I'll be back for another round of Five Finger Death Punch.  They are by far my latest favorite band.  Check out the link above for some dream guitar.
