BPW Education Fund Gala

Saturday August 23rd, we held our first annual Jazz Gala for scholarships.   The night was a success and attended my some of Orlando's elite like Chief of Police Val Demmings and her husband running for Orlando Sheriff.

There were other VIP's present, a couple of politicians, candidates and even Nick Andersen from the Magic.   All in all it was a resounding success.   Sue Ann did an incredible job getting folks there and we even made money on the auctions and raffles.

Eva played master of ceremonies and I gave the following speech:

Business and Professional Women,  or as we like to call it BPW has been a leading advocate for working women since 1919.

Founded during the first world war at a time when women were asked to help America by heading out into the workforce to do their part for the war effort

Since that time, BPW has been on a mission,  a mission to support women professionally, personally and politically.

One of the oldest working women’s organizations nationwide, BPW has been an advocate for Orlando Women since 1920.  In addition to being a leading influence in women’s suffrage and equality movements, BPW Orlando has focused on Women’s education.

In 1965, BPW Orlando proudly witnessed the opening of the BPW UCF scholarship house, a scholarship based residence for women of need.

Today BPW women across the state of Florida can proudly reflect on their contribution of scholarship houses in Tallahassee and in Boca Raton.   And even now as we speak, BPW women are in the process of building our newest scholarship house at St Pete College.

In 2007, a group of BPW Orlando women, determined to expand the vision of supporting education in Central Florida, created the BPW Orland Education Fund,  This fund is dedicated to providing scholarships directly to women in pursuit of higher education.  Whether just starting out as a college freshman, continuing her education or seeking and advanced degree ,  we recognize that women at all levels can use  a helping and defraying ever increasing college expenses.

No women should be denied a higher education, simply because they couldn’t make the tuition.

Tonight, your generous contributions will go directly to women in pursuit of their educational endeavors.  We appreciate all you can do to support our local women in seeking a better tomorrow.

Now I would like to introduce you to 2 extraordinary women that have benefited from the BPW UCF House on the UCF campus.
