ZOSO The Led Zeppelin Experience

Being too young to have seen an actual Led Zeppelin concert, I've only known their greatness through recordings.   As in all great music, nothing compares to a live performance.   Although perhaps  this concert  could be nothing like a real Zeppelin show, it certainly was  better than simply listening to the gods of metal on CD's.

Back in 1978, my first Zeppelin record was All of My Love, which is still a favorite of mine but most likely considered a single of lesser importance given the many epic songs the geniuses have composed.  ZoSo decided to omit this song and Stairway to Heaven which I question if that is even allowed from a band labeling itself a tribute.  Apparently, according to their website, Stairway is in their repertoire.  I guess they chose, for whatever reason, to skip it for this concert.

So my only negative comment out of the way, I can wax lyrical about this great foursome.   Started in 1995, this group has traveled far and wide impersonating the exact look, style and vocals of Zeppelin.   They create the full experience including period instruments, costumes, mannerisms, sound and most notably vocalization.  Hands down this band sounded more like Zeppelin than I could ever have hoped to imagine.

Adam was probably one of the most impressive characters, musically anyway.   He played a mean bass but then blew everyone away on keyboard.  And he played keyboard while simultaneously playing a bass organ---with his FEET.  Wow.

The highlight for me was when Mike brought out a stunning maroon Gibson double neck guitar for Song Remains the Same.  I am convinced I want one of those.  He also pulled off some ear piercing solos that were near perfection.   What I loved about hearing this music live, was experiencing the sonic power and pure heaviness of this music.  It just doesn't port over to CD's no matter how good your speakers.  (and mine are GOOD)

Another great moment was when Johnny launched into a Bonham-like drum solo.   It was so impressive that I felt like I really was beginning to understand the greatness of Bonham.  Clearly Bohnam was part of the drums holy trinity along with Moon and Pert.   Johnny took the show to it's very limits by playing the last portion of his solo without sticks.
