Adelitas Way with Theory of A Deadman-Sayreville NJ
Sometimes in life, opportunities come along and you may not think to take full advantage of them. Other times you get really lucky and things just work out far beyond what you may have imagined. This trip was that very example of a series of events that all fell into place exactly in a way that probably couldn't have happened without a lot of luck and playing the odds.
Just so happened that I was flying up to DE for work with my project implementation. One of the first things I checked was for Adelitas Way concerts in the area. Of course I knew they were traveling in the North, but what luck not one but two shows within an hours drive of Wilmington. Timing was pure luck b.c I had to be at work in Wilmington on Sunday and shows were Fri and Sat night. It also worked out perfectly that Ali was able to travel with me to catch both shows and then simply fly back home on Sunday.
So Ali and I met at Philly airport on Friday and took our time driving to NJ. We had planned to surprise the guys by not telling them we were coming, nor did we announce it on our Facebook pages. When we got to the venue we contacted Rick, but he was with his family so we waited at the bar across the street (which was a VFW) until the gates opened.
It was in the bar that we started chatting. The topic of Ricks brother came up and Ali wanted to see a picture, so I hit up his Myspace page. While I was in Myspace I noticed that the contest I had entered on a lark announced me as a winner--ha we were freaking out. At this point I wasn't even sure I would get to do the interview b.c I hadn't yet replied to the email and it was an hour before door. But low and behold when we got to the will call, we had 2 tickets waiting for us. We then contacted the venue manager, who eventually worked it all out. We were gonna interview Theory of a Deadman. (see other blog entry for contest details and interview)
While we were backstage waiting for Theory we ran into Rick who greeted us with much love and many hugs. He thought it was so cool too that we were interviewing the headliners. He himself hadn't really gotten a chance to know Tyler. At that point we also found Creighton who greeted us with big hugs. He and Ali go back before AW when he was in Leo Project, so they were already friends.
After the AW set it was time to sell CD's and we finally ran into Keith. Keith was so surprised to see us and said so many great things about how he loved all the Fla fans, and that we were all so cool, and that not all fans were as cool. We witnessed for ourselves this one fan that was bugging the heck out of all the band members who of course are always so gracious. Ali and I spent much time talking to Creighton b.c they hadn't chatted in over a year and there was much to hear about his tour and new role in AW. I spent a lot of time talking to Keith during the Halestorm and Theory set. We talked a long time about touring, his home life, and music in general. This is when I found out he co wrote Scars in the Making with Carl Bell.
After the show, and selling more CD's, 30 between us, Ali and I hung out for a few hours with all of the guys. It was really cool b.c the bouncers wanted to kick us out but both Creighton and Rick were like-no they are with us. It was during this time that I first encountered Chris Babbitt. Creighton kept saying I didn't like his solos (totally unfounded) simply b.c when I first met him I asked him if he was working on the solos. We were talking about solos and bends when Chris Babbitt came over with his bubbly personality and kidding Creighton about sucking at the solos and talking about some other guitar players and their skill levels not really being as high as one might think. It was really fun and I knew immediately that I liked Chris.
We also got some inside scoops on the new video which seems will be absolutely amazing. We learned it's going to be pretty artsy and different. Creighton told us he thought he looked terrible in the video but that Rick looked hot in a $1300 jacket they dressed him up in for the shoot. Derek was just not happy that there wasn't a long take on his left hand with the tat. I'm sure we will all love the video and I for one can't wait till it comes out and we can start posting it everywhere.
It was pretty late when we said good night to all the guys, telling them we would see them the very next night in Baltimore. Ali and I both think this was one of the best shows ever, simply because we had tons of time catching up with everyone.
